The Preventions and treatment of Iron (low iron, low serum ferritin)

Iron is the mineral found in the largest amounts in the blood cells. The function of iron is the production of hemoglobin and myoglobin (the form of hemoglobin found in muscle), and the oxygenation of red blood cells. It is essential for a healthy immune system, energy production, growth and for many enzymes. Iron deficiency is most often caused by insufficient dietary intake of iron. It could also result from excessive bleeding, long term illness, ulcers, prolonged use of antacids, excessive coffee or tea consumption or poor diet. Symptoms include anemia, brittle hair, difficulty swallowing, dizziness, fatigue, fragile bones, hair loss, nails with ridges, nervousness, obesity and slow mental reactions.
