The Preventions and treatment of Insomnia/Frequent Night Time Awakenings/Sleep Disturbances
Habitual restlessness and inability to sleep soundly without disturbance is insomnia. Failure to get an entire night’s sleep on most nights over a one-month period can be considered chronic insomnia. Being unable to fall asleep or waking up in the middle of sleep and not being able to fall back asleep is also a form of insomnia. Getting quality sleep is an important factor in functioning at peak performance the following day. Lack of sleep or frequent sleep disturbances can lead to irritability, anxiousness, and a decreased ability to perform creative or repetitive tasks. Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to serious health conditions. Refrain from drinking stimulants such as caffeinated coffee or tea, or eating to close to bedtime. Alcohol and tobacco can disturbed sleep patterns and some drugs, such as anti-depressants, decongestants, high blood pressure medication and appetite suppressants can also lead to insomnia.
