The Prevention and Treatment of Bronchitis (Chronic Bronchitis)

Chronic bronchitis is a condition of the lungs where recurrent and excess mucus secretes into the bronchial tree. The goblet cells that secrete the mucus are enlarged and numerous in the individual with this condition. Mucus gland ducts can also become dilated, further compromising breathing and lung capacity. Cigarette smoking is one of the most common irritant, as well as exposure to dusts, fumes, environmental pollution and bacterial (and possible viral) infections.
